Behind the Webpage |
| The year is 2001. The webpage
is 'Could You Do Me Right?', a haven of Backstreet Boys humor and fanfiction.
Today its seven members, known as Purple Lipstick, are happy and enjoying
their international success. However, things weren't always as calm. The
group had to overcome apathy, personal turmoil, romantic distress, and a
lack of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll because they were too busy working on
the page. Tonight on Mock TV's 'Behind The Webpage': Could You Do Me Right.
('Behind the Music' theme and commercial break) In May of 1999, Purpura found a site dedicated to musical boy group *N SYNC. Young and impressionable, she was a fan of the group, and befriended the owner of the site, Stef. Stef remembers the day well.
(flashes to interview) Purpura, Murasaki , Stef and Porpurni (though she hadn't been given that name yet) decided to create a humor page about both the Backstreet Boys (another boyband), and *N SYNC. Added to the group was Purpura's personal friend Lacie. None of them were aware that one of the members would later take action that would almost tear them apart.
(flashes to interview) Lacie was given the page name of Mauve. Purpura sent out e-mail inquiries asking for help in starting the page in June of 1999. However, there was a roadblock to their goals. They received no replies from *N SYNC fans and instead chose to become a Backstreet Boys humor page. Due to this, and the fact that Purpura's Internet *N SYNC fan friend wasn't participating, she was dropped from the Purple Lipstick group. Internal conflicts almost tore the page apart at an inopportune time. Right before the page went up on Aug. 4th of 1999, Lacie (Mauve) was dropped from the group by Purpura because she was not contributing to the page. Deepening the problems was Lacie's inclination towards *N SYNC rather than Backstreet.
(flashes to interview) However, the page managed to be posted despite this with four members: Purpura, Murasaki, Porpurni and Roxo. Not long after the page went up, Purpura befriended another girl on the Internet. She became the new Mauve Lipstick.
(flashes to interview) Several months later, Lacie contacted Purpura and renounced *N SYNC by proclaiming her love for Backstreet's oldest member, Kevin. (shows still photograph of him) She was allowed back into the group under the name Morado. When 'Behind the Webpage' returns: Purple Lipstick faces their biggest challenge yet while at the height of their success, and we become so melodramatic that the narrator is hired as a 'Days of Our Lives' actor. ('Behind the Music' theme and commercial break) The lineup remained fixed as Purpura, Murasaki, Porpurni, Mauve, Roxo and Morado for the next few weeks, until Purpura began talking to the one of the most hilarious girls she had ever met. After corresponding for a week, Purpura knew she had what it took to be a Lipstick.
(flashes to interview) The next few months were idyllic. The seven girls worked well together and made the page truly spectacular. Roxo and Morado were not participating much, but Purpura allowed them to remain in the group and simply "spoke for" them. None of them had any idea that soon their sunny paradise would become stormy. (slow motion shot of Purpura laughing) Purpura had found the object of her affections, Mr. Z. Mr. Z. worked with Purpura at the library and Lacie had seen them there together a few times. Lacie knew that Purpura was interested in Mr. Z.
(flashes to interview, face in shadow) Lacie used Purpura to hook up Mr. Z. and one of their other friends.
(flashes back to interview, face still shadowed) Lacie was a bitch. A devastated and betrayed Purpura kicked her out of the group.
(flashes to interview) Things were looking bad, but a ray of hope stole through the clouds when Purpura decided to replace Lacie with a new, kinder, gentler Morado. Auditons were held. Meanwhile, Dusty (Roxo) was forced to leave the Lipsticks because she wasn't participating. A new Morado Lipstick was found and another girl was surprised with the post of Roxo. Finally, the seven Lipstick positions were full again. Still, there was discontentment, as Dusty was upset at being dropped.
(flashes to interview) The conflict was peacefully resolved. Dusty will be posting material on the page, so there are two Roxos, and therefore two representative dolls. However, the new Roxo is the official one. When we return, the Lipsticks go through their most tramautic experiences since they formed. ('Behind the Music' theme music and commercial break). During what should have been a peaceful spring break of 2000, Purpura and the other girls were faced with the loss of two Lipsticks.
(flashes to interview)
(flashes to interview) Crushed and broken, Purpura was left with no other choice but to re-open the auditions. The summer dragged on with Lipstick hopefuls writing the girls and buying them expensive jewelry with the hopes they would be chosen.
(flashes to interview) The girls Inabey spoke of would become the future Jacinta and Mautim. Before they were officially given the extreme pleasure of becoming a Lipstick they were put through rigorous tests not only of the body (shows a clip of two girls doing one handed push-ups), but of the mind. (shows the girls contemplating answers) One girl showed her worth right away and was let on.
(flashes to interview) When Behind the Webpage returns, we journey with the Lipsticks through a Lipstick so brief we are only going to mention her before we break for commercial. (a still photo of Viola is flashed) One Lipstick is devasted by a possible influenza outbreak and Purpura regains her sense of humor when we return. ('Behind the Music' music and commercial break) Influenza. The sound of that word would send chills down your spine if you were prone to get sick, for one Lipstick it meant taking a leave of absence from the page to live in a plastic bubble.
(flashes to interview) *coughs from the smell of cleaner* Afraid she would scare the other girls, Purpura let her take her break from the page. With only five girls, Purpura went back to the drawing board and retested the girl who flunked the summer exams.
(flashes to interview) What could she do? She was pestered, stalked and just plain scared to avoid the girl she had once turned down.
(flashes to interview) One cold and lonely night in January, Purpura lured the girl into a chat room with Inabey and herself, where they announced her name as Lipstick and told her to get to work.
(flashes to interview) The conclusion to the love affair the Lipsticks have with themselves when we return. ('Behind the Webpage music and commercial break) As the year 2001 started and with Jacinta's return from her bubble, the girls of 'Could You Do Me Right?' worked diligently on their site, but some felt something was missing.
(flashes to interview) Something was indeed missing. Porpurni had left the page. (shows a camera shot of Porpurni sneaking out of a window, luggage in hand) Murasaki was devastated with the departure of her sister.
(flashes to interview) The Lipsticks decided to open their search for another girl once again. Deciding this time they would aim for more girls, that way they were more likely to hit something, er, get more to stick around. That's when Maria approached them.
(flashes to interview) Even with Maria as Morat, the girls are still searching for that one person to make their page complete. Maybe it'll be you. (announcer comes out from behind camera and points into the camera) Now, in the year 2001, the future of Purple Lipstick and their webpage looks rosy. There are no internal conflicts brewing and the stories and funnies keep coming. They are confident that they can continue to be one big happy family despite the conflicts that may come their way. (cheesy group still with everyone with big smiles) For there is only one rule to follow in this world of Purple Lipstick and 'Could You Do Me Right?'
